Isaac Levitan is a great Russian landscape artist, a contemporary and a close friend of Anton Chekhov. Levitan didn't just masterly and emotionally depict nature, his landscapes also convey different feelings of a viewer. This attribute of Levitan's paintings coincides with Chekhov's depictions of nature. In this sense Levitan is more than a landscape artist, he had created the metaphors of human life's joys and sorrows. The featured edition comprises selected paintings, water-colours, drawings, lithographs and etchings from the collections of State Russian Museum (St.Petersburg), State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), and Memorial Flat of I.I.Brodsky (St.Petersburg).
