To the Reader == The Museum of Wine in Art is one of the treasures of Château Mouton Rothschild, a Bordeaux premier cru classé (first-growth wine) situated at Pauillac in the Médoc. The collection numbers over four hundred works of art and precious objects, some of them extremely rare, from all ages and all parts of the world and made of all types of materials, relating to the vine, wine and the pleasure of drinking. Designed by Baron Philippe de Rothschild and his wife, Baroness Pauline, built entirely by local craftsmen and inaugurated in 1962 by Andre Malraux, then Minister of Culture, it has been constantly added to by the two founders and, since their death, by Baroness Philippine, Baron Philippe's only daughter and the current owner of Mouton.
Situated at the heart of the estate, between the Grand Chai and the Vat Room, the Museum of Wine in Art occupies a former barrel hall and its associated premises, representing a total surface area of 474 m2 divided between six rooms of various sizes, each devoted to different types of exhibit:
1. Main Room: antiques, gold and silverware, ivories, tapestries ;
2. Italian Room: furniture, paintings, fabrics ;
3. Treasury: small objects in gold, precious and semi-precious stones ;
4. Picture Room: 17th-20th century European paintings ;
5. Rinsing Room: ceramics and glassware ;
6. Overseas Room: Egyptian, Eastern and pre-Columbian art.
